'A time to be born and a time to die' by Marion Adnams Print
To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.
Like a number of Adnams’ later works, the title of this painting draws upon a Biblical reference. In this case, musings on humanity and the meaning of life related by King Solomon in the Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes. Adnams expresses the simple wisdom of the verse in a towering mass of dead wood, surrounded by empty eggshells.
